INNOVATIVE HOUSING--URGENT NOTICE |

Note - This letter is now background information on Innovative Housing Dear
Neighborhood Associations: Here
is another quick update on the innovative housing demonstration program in
Kirkland. On December 5, 2002, the Kirkland Planning Commission
selected two innovative housing proposals in North Rose Hill to proceed
into the land use permit phase of the process. Those applications
are for a 15-unit compact single-family development proposed by Camwest
Development and a 15-unit compact single-family and cottage housing
development proposed by The Cottage Company. Each of those projects
will proceed with a neighborhood meeting prior to submitting their Process
IIB Zoning Permit application to the City. Notice of the meetings
and hearings for the projects will be mailed to the neighborhood
associations and to property owners within 500 feet of the projects. The
City Council was provided with a status report on innovative housing at
their December 18th meeting.
They
asked staff to come back with some options for reopening the program for
another round of demonstration projects. They will discuss whether
they want to do this at their February 4, 2003 meeting. If they
decide to reopen the program, they will hold a public hearing and take
action on an ordinance at their February 18, 2003 meeting.
I will forward a copy of the staff memo to the City Council when it is
available this Friday afternoon (January 31st). Please
let me know if you have any questions about the innovative housing
program. Dawn Nelson
